IWD Iron Wrought Doors Touch-Up Guide

Case 1: Minor Surface Scratches (The scratches do not penetrate the coating.)

Step 1: Lightly sand the scratched area with fine-grit sandpaper. Remove dust and apply the black topcoat.

Step 2: After another 30 minutes, apply the second coat of clear coat.

Step 3: After another 30 minutes, apply the second coat of clear coat once the first coat is dry.

Case 2: Deep Scratches (The scratches penetrate the coating and expose the iron layer.)

Step 1: Apply putty. Once dry, sand smooth with coarse-grit sandpaper. Remove dust and apply the first coat of black topcoat.

Putty : Curing Agent = 100:1

Step 2: Once dry, lightly sand with fine-grit sandpaper. Remove dust and apply a slightly thicker second coat.

Step 3: After 30 minutes, apply a slightly thicker coat of clear coat.

Step 4: Once dry, lightly sand with fine-grit sandpaper. Remove dust and apply the final thin coat of clear coat.

Important Note

1️⃣ For non-black doors, apply the color coat after Step 1. Once the black topcoat is dry, remove excess paint on cardboard, then brush on a thin coat. Proceed to Step 2 when dry.

2️⃣ After each step, wait at least 30 minutes or until the previous coat is completely dry before proceeding to the next step. After completing the touch-up, allow at least 4 hours for the repaired area to fully dry before touching it.

3️⃣ The above touch-up procedures are intended for localized surface damage. For extensive coating damage, peeling, blistering caused by water intrusion, or significant rust, please contact IWD for further assistance.
